Well the first of the children has graduated. Morgan graduated from Fairfield High School on Sunday, June 8, 2008! It was a fantastic ceremony, even if it was a little long. Over 600 students walked on Sunday and the entire ceremony lasted just about 3 hours.
We had a party for Morgan on Saturday with a lot of family and friends. Pictures of both events plus the “attack” on her car have been posted in our family gallery.
For those that either made the actualy ceremony or sent cards and well wishes, we thank you very much for your support of Morgan on this special day. Now she is off to enjoy the summer before she starts her studies to become a fire fighter.
Congratulations Morgan! We love you and are so proud of you! And no matter what, you will always remain my Little Girl.
Well after a server upgrade on the home server, the family photo album is back up and running. The photos will be added over the next few days. Sorry but anyone who had registered in the past will need to reregister as it was lost during the upgrade.
Well yesterday I completed my third sprint distance triathlon. I crushed my previous best time by over 15 minutes and finished the race in 1hr 30min 12sec. The biggest difference for this race was the swim. Looking at last years races my swim times where right about 25 minutes for that leg of the race and this year I came in at 14:20. It’s great to see all the hard work I put in during the winter on my swim paid off. It could have been a lot better though. This race I had to swim in a wet suit for the first time ever and it was really really different. The water temps where about 63F so the wet suit was almost a must.
Anyone who wants to read the race report can find it at Beginner Triathlete along with a few photos.
Although the time was super low for this race for me I am keeping it in perspective. The total distance was a little less than the other two races and had it been closer to that distance, the time would have only been about 5 minutes faster, which is still an improvement.
If you are having a rough day and just really need to put things into perspective check out this video. I was first introduced to the Jon “Blazeman” Blais story last summer when I first watched the NBC coverage of the 2006 Ironman Hawaii World Championships. Jon suffered from ALS or more frequently known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Watch the video, if it doesn’t tug at your heart, then nothing will and if it doesn’t make you appreciate the little things in life, again nothing will!
Some of you might have noticed a new link in our links section. This is all of the music that we have collected over the years. You are free to listen to it and browse what we have on file. You will need an account set up and there is no way for me to automate this, so if you would like to listen to our music, drop me an email and I will get an account setup for you.
Ok so finally the family photo server has been completed. If everything is working properly you will need to register in order to view the photos but it will all be automated. Just register and you should get an email for you to confirm that you really want to do this and then you can see all our wonderful family pictures.
Sorry to have to do that, but it is the only way to keep the bots away from our stuff.
Ok so the photo server crashed yet again. I have it fixed now and put in some new measures to “hopefully” keep it from occurring again. It will take some time to add all the pictures again and get them formatted, but they will be up shortly. I am also thinking of just making the gallery open so that no registration or login would be required unless you wanted to save a photo. I am still looking at that.
Well it has been a while since I posted anything so this one will be a bit of a general catch up.
As anyone who has checked here in the past you know that I started training and doing some triathlons this past spring and summer. When I first started back in May I was unable swim more than 50yds at a time and then I was wiped out. I did get to a point where I could swim 100yds late in the summer but I then had to take anywhere from a one minute to two minute break before I could start out again. Even at this schedule I couldn’t do any more than 3 or 4 sets before I was done for the day. Back in the middle of October I started making a serious effort to get better at swimming and get better conditioned. I started swimming 4 – 5 days a week. Slowly it started to come around and in December alone I will have swam close to 20,000 yards. I am routinely doing 1000+ yard workouts and I actually did a fully 1.5 mile swim in the pool a couple of weeks ago without breaking.
Around the September or so I also started running about 5 days a week. The goal was to get ready for the Flying Pig Half Marathon that is in May 2008. I had built up to the point that I was running 20-25 miles a week regularly and then it happened. My right knee tightened up on me and it kept me from running. I took a few weeks off and tried it again. Well I got to about 2 miles or so and again it happened. I haven’t run in about three weeks now and the physical therapist has said that I need to wait one more week before I can try again. When I do start back it will be very slowly. Starting at no more than one mile per run the first week and adding maybe 1/2 or 1 mile per run each week.
The issue is this: I am stiff as hell. That is a direct quote from my PT. They have me stretching like crazy and the biggest issue that I have is my right leg has IT Band problems. I have started using a foam roller to try to stretch it out, but man it is seriously painful. We will see how things come along over the next few weeks.
I will be ordering a bike trainer in the next few days, so I should be able to at least start riding my bike again inside and start getting that back in shape.
I will be setting my goals for distances and hours training for 2008 here shortly and they will be posted here. It will be neat to see what I hope to do and what I can actually do.
I did the Fairfield Turkey Trot 5k run back on November 17th. It was a great race for me and I did two things I have never ever done. I set a new PR for my 5k run at 24:23 and I also finished in 2nd place for my age group! It was great. My splits where as follows:
I am still training for the Flying Pig Half Marathon in May 2008 and I am planning on doing 8 Triathlons and 2 duathlons next season. I can’t wait for the spring to get here.
Due to a malfunction that occurred earlier this week while upgrading the family picture gallery, the database somehow got corrupted. Stupid me, didn’t have a backup of the database (learned my lesson the hard way) so it is now down. I will be rebuilding the database over the next few days. Anyone who had registered with the site will need to register yet again.
Sorry for the issues, but all will be good again soon.
